The Miami Beach Reef and its Visitors must be protected!
There is a magnificent reef right off South Beach. It was nearly destroyed in the 1950s (dredged as fill for "beach re-nourishing"). Now, 70 years later, while other reefs are bleaching, this reef is thriving and needs our protection.

Miami Beach Reef in the News!
Why this petition matters
The Miami Beach coral reef, which is part of the only coral reef system in the continental United States, is extra special because you can dive this reef directly from the beach. No expensive boat trip is required to access the reef. It is shallow, just between 15-25' underwater. This makes it affordable family fun for locals and tourists alike, and accessible as a living ambassador for all Florida's corals.
The scientific community is excited that in the era of dying reefs and coral bleaching, this reef is resilient and defying the odds. The City of Miami Beach and the County are both excited to discover a new economic engine with family-friendly activities.
Many Endangered Species, including hard corals, conchs, and even Manatees have been documented. It is populated by gorgeous tropical fish, baby nurse sharks, rare corals and eye-popping marine life.
